Following on from my previous blog, the new essence still had some way to go as now I needed to involve the horses. I carried the essence bowl along with some other items to create a sacred space within a secure part of the field that I was then going to turn the horses out in over night under the full moon. For part of my scared space to Co create the essence I included my beautiful Unicorn crystal and some equine cards. The entire pack of cards created by Rachel Beesley with a wild mustang herd seemed so appropriate to be a part of the energy within this essence to help horses connect with their higher herd. Along with those I also chose one card from The Way of the Horse Archytype cards by Linda Kohanov, Connecting with the Ancestors card. This card in particular is to help connect to the higher horse realm and healing for deep ancestral hurts. Connecting with their wisdom and healing of trauma.

I was also guided to include in the sacred space some Rose Quartz and a Blosem essence Cell Energie. This essnece is to help return us to our intitial cellular blue print we first incarnated with. These things were all left in place near the essence bowl while I went to fetch the horses. They had seen me go past carrying the bowl and I’d already connected to them to let them know we were making the essnece and asking for their participation. Imagine my surprise when I went to fetch them and found them like this.

They allowed me to sit quietly with them for a good 15 minutes or so while I sat and meditated, calling in the Co creative team and elements that were all part of the making of the essence. When the horses had awoken from this deep healing space I took them to the field where they grazed near the bowl over night.

The Pink Full Moon was also very poignant for being included in the process. The Pink Full Moon in Native American Indian Culture was given the name due to the mass emergence of pink phlox flowers. Spiritually, the Pink Moon always signifies rebirth and renewal. After a long, cold, grey and miserable winter, the resurgence of the color pink is a revitalizing dose of beauty and joy. It serves as a reminder that life is a set of ups and downs, a cycle of hibernation and reawakening. How that relates to the healing of horses I think is on a heart level and long winter being the trials of life through the ages as mans servant, in war and conflict, neglect and abuse. Now we are hoping for a shift which already exists for many in that their relationships with humans are just that, relationships that honour them as sentient beings with huge hearts and capacity for great love and forgiveness.

May the horses re connect with their overlighting herd and experience harmony and balance with love and peace. May they be facilitators of Co creating a new world where horses and humans have a deep connection and relationship with their species specific needs met on all levels to promote health and wellness. May the traumas of their past including those of their ancestors be healed. With much gratitude to horses and their service to humanity.

Well the day had arrived to make the essence. In my mind I thought it would be purely an environmental essence and I was planning to make it in the field where the horses grazed. It was Good Friday, the sun was shining and this evening was to be a full pink moon. It was definitely the day to co create the essence but then bam, I couldn’t believe it, a silly trigger caused a row between me and my husband that came quite suddenly out of the blue which left me feeling completely shattered and wondering how on Earth did that just happen. It put a black cloud on the weekend and I went and sat in nature feeling very emotional. How could I possibly make the essence because my own emotions needed to be clear. I sat and thought I must get a grip on how I feel because we can in the moment choose our thoughts. I could either indeed allow the argument and mood to set the tone for the whole weekend or change my thoughts and responses. Easier said than done, but I got myself a drink and as I looked into my garden I felt overwhelmed with emotion looking at the beautiful pink flowering cherry blossom. I decided to sit under the tree for a while to calm myself down. As I felt her calming energy I began to feel an overwhelming sense of calm and a loving gentle pink heart energy completely surrounded me making me feel safe and held. In an instant I knew this was all meant to happen and was part of the process. This was to be the basis of the Equi Anima Essence. It was for healing the heart of deep emotional wounds. I needed to feel that depth of emotion to really know what this essence for the horses was all about. During the making I introduced some sound vibrations using my tuning fork for the Universal Om frequency.

I felt that the making of the Cherry Blossom over the mid day Sun was one stage of the process and used my pendulum to see what was needed next. I bottled the mother tincture, gave some of the remaining water back to the Cherry and soil around her trunk, then poured the remaining water with flowers into the larger bowl. My first thoughts after the argument were that this essence was offered to me as a response to how I felt and it was to be for people, but as I tuned in to what this was all about I strongly got the message that this was actually to be part of the process of creating the essence for horses. After sitting with the tree for some time I felt completely at peace again and ready for the next stage. The second part would Involve a Co creative session with horses, nature beings, crystals, the elements and the Full Pink Moon.

I am delighted that Natural Answer has been accepted as a business that supports the non ridden horse and those people who choose not to ride by the Non Ridden Equine Association UK.

The association is dedicated to making life better and raising the status for non ridden horses and has a has a large group that has been set up for the non-ridden horse, pony, mule, donkey and people who choose not to ride. There are a lot of pressures that face the non-ridden equine. The non-ridden horse is often over looked and under-valued and treated in some cases as a second class citizen. Equines that cannot be ridden are often physically and or emotionally damaged. Many have suffered at the hand of man. The horse world can be a cruel place. There is also a lot of social pressure folk face who own non-ridden equines or choose not to ride.

Their association and social media group has been set up to celebrate the many joys non-ridden equines can bring to us. It is a place people can exchange ideas and experiences of enjoyment of the non-ridden equine. Plus show off their beautiful equines. People who love horses and do not own one and riders are also welcome to join the association and group. Non ridden activities are wonderful for all equines. The association is not ant riding, but is there to support all non ridden equines. Their website has a library that members can access and many other resources.

The therapies I offer support all equines and much of the training workshops I host by others have been suited for non ridden equines focussing on ground work for improved posture, Horsemanship, clicker training and horse agility days.

you can find the Non Ridden Equine Association here: https://www.thenonriddenequineassociationuk.org/

Continued from part 2

After carrying out ritual and cleansing of the space with the help of the nature kingdom during my daily walk round the farm with my dogs in the early mornings and the stillness I find my mind open for the information to come through. Sitting on the bench by the War memorial I get a sense of things that have gone before. This area of Essex between Colchester and London was once traversed by Roman soldiers and the Iceni Queen Boudicca. Many battles have likely raged here and indeed it is reported that near the village of Messing may have been Boudicca’s final battle when she was defeated by the Romans. I have done much healing with this in the past here and that’s for another blog. For now though it made me think of how horses have been involved in human battles for so much of our history.

Sitting on the bench looking out across the land it’s a clear day and I can see for miles. I imagine what it might have been like back in Boudicca’s time. Horses have been recorded as far back as 5000 years ago as being used in war and battles.

I begin to ground myself and connect to my guidance team and ask to be shown what the essence I’m to make for horses is all about because so far I only know it’s to connect horses to the herd but I’m getting a sense that it’s also to do with horses in war. The following information starts to come to me.

Over the ages horses have suffered a disconnect from the higher herd consciousness, the overlighting Soul of the species if you like. The master herd. This has happened due to the trauma inflicted in war times and other traumas at the hands of man. The horse above most animals bar maybe dogs have shared our evolution closely. Our evolution has been intertwined from early domestication. They have carried us great distances far further than we could have walked ourselves, spreading our species through many lands, they would have provided us with meat and skins in the early days, they carried our baggage, physically, mentally and emotionally, carried us into battle and enabled us to fight our wars. They were wounded, killed and traumatised in doing this.

Following on from my earlier blog about the importance of positive early experiences and socialisation for young puppies.

So you have your new puppy home and hopefully he’s settled in his new surroundings, he’s comfortable with all the family members and you’ve established some basic routines of feeding, sleep, play and beginnings of toilet training. Perhaps you’ve visited the vets hopefully for nothing more than his first vaccinations, advice on worming, flea control etc and wonderful if you managed to take him to a puppy party for socialisation with other puppies his age. So assuming you can now take your puppy out you may be considering some puppy training classes. Even if you are not intending to want to train your puppy for a specific role and really just want to enjoy trouble free walks with your new four legged companion it’s important to get the basics well trained. Most puppy training classes are held in village halls or similar and it is a great way to get them used to other puppies of similar age, some a little older, people and all sorts of stimulus. You meet like minded people and you can start to teach your puppy basic cues for things like sit, down and walk with you. This is all great and I’d make sure you ask the person doing the training what their methods entail. There is a big movement towards reward based training and it has been scientifically shown that all animals and ourselves learn much better and are more likely to repeat the desired activity with reward based training. Trained with positive reinforcement will help your puppy be more attentive, focussed and will be fun rather than training that focuses on deterring behaviours you don’t want with aversive methods. Good training classes can be invaluable and I’d recommend you do attend some classes.

But what about the nervous puppy and what about allowing your puppy to experience other things he’s going to need to do in life, like meeting older dogs, seeing other animals and livestock, walking in the open and going off lead. Some puppies can find the large group classes a bit overwhelming although a good trainer would acknowledge that and help you gain the puppies confidence by letting only similar natured and sized puppies in small numbers loose to investigate and using food rewards to encourage the puppy to interact. Some of the challenges you might encounter when you first start taking your puppy out can be a bit overwhelming and frightening for some puppies. We were very lucky that the puppy training school we attended with our Barley held regular group walks which was great and I’d encourage you to look for a trainer that offers that. Above all you want your puppy to have good experiences and for you to feel confident too. Arranging to walk with a friend with a well behaved older dog can also be really beneficial when you take those first steps out in the big wide world.

I decided to offer people the opportunity to let their puppy socialise and learn some basic firsts steps with reward based training in much smaller groups. I wanted to create an experience for new puppy owners and their precious babies that would be more of a stepping stone from just being at home in the garden to getting out and about in the wider environment, perhaps before attending classes in a hall or even to run along side that but offering a different experience.

We are very lucky to be on our farm which is secure and stock fenced all round the 20 acres with safe walking areas. I wanted to offer puppy owners a unique experience to be able to bring their puppy to an hour and a half session in very small groups of no more than 6 puppies ranging from 12 weeks just after their second vaccine to around 20 weeks. Part of the session would be out doors on the grass practicing some basic training and would incorporate a short lead walk where they could see safely from the other side of the fence horses and our pet sheep. Early introductions to livestock could be invaluable to how they might react if they see these animals out and about in future. They could see our chickens from a distance too who will be safely in their enclosure. Seeing if your puppy seems just curious, fearful or totally fixated as if they want to chase them could give owners valuable insights into their puppy’s natural instincts. Some breeds of dogs and individuals may have a very high chase drive. Introducing to different animals at a young age can be very helpful.

After our walk and out door activities we will return to one of our barns where owners can get themselves a tea or coffee or cold drink. Hopefully the pups will find it easier to settle after the activity and it will be good practice to encourage calmness while I give a short talk about common issues and introduce some natural products for dogs. Each participant will receive a puppy pack with useful information, samples and some vouchers.

I will be offering a few of these sessions throughout the summer and it would be fine to come more than once. In fact I would encourage it and hopefully we might progress to some off lead play and socialisation as the puppies become familiar and confident with each other. My aim is that they have very positive associations with other dogs and people and with seeing livestock for the first time.

There is a small window in a very young puppy’s life where it is important that he or she is able to form positive associations and be habituated to the things they will need to help them keep an open, curious, confident and fear free mind. They learn a great deal from their mother and siblings and from their surroundings. Puppies that have been allowed to be properly nurtured by their mother who herself has a strong maternal bond and is a well adjusted happy dog will be better set up for a happy problem free life. If they have been born and reared in doors In a home or at least are brought in daily so that they become acclimatised to humans, children, general normal house hold happenings like the noise of the telly, a vacuum cleaner, being gently handled without too much interference and allowed plenty of sleep and play with litter mates they will be so much better equipped to go to their new homes and remain curious, happy, confident puppy’s that with appropriate experiences and training will become great family members and companions.

The most crucial stage is actually before most people bring their new puppy home or at least before they have finished their initial inocululations. These early weeks are incredibly important and the most formative in how that puppy will relate to the world. Puppies that have been born outside and kept caged and shut off with little interaction with the outside world which frequently happens with puppy farms and unscrupulous breeders, will have great difficulty forming appropriate relationships with humans and other dogs and animals, often being fearful and anxious. Puppies weaned too young or those that have had a lack of proper maternal bonding will often carry a deep anxiety that may present as separation anxiety, over attachment, nervousness and fear based aggression.

When considering having a puppy it’s really important to do your home work beforehand. Are your circumstances really suited to having a puppy? Are you out at work for long hours, are their children in your home and if so how old are they? What time and commitment do you have? Does the breed and type of dog you want suit your lifestyle. Assuming you are sure having a puppy come into your home as a family member is what you want and you know you can meet that puppy’s needs for life then it’s time to look for a reputable breeder. One of the best ways is through recommendation. You need to do your home work here too. A good breeder will want to do their homework about you too, making sure their puppy will be well matched to your home life and personality. A good breeder would want to do their best to ensure their puppies have loving homes for life and will probably grill you over your circumstances and motivations to have one of their puppies. Speaking to them on the phone you should get a feel for them and they you.

When visiting the litter of puppies for the first time it’s important to note how they are kept. The bitch should look in good healthy condition and have a nice temperament. If at all possible see if you can see the stud dog. If he’s from another kennel ask about him and see if they have photos, see if they have any related adults you can meet so you can assess their temperaments. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Ideally the puppies would be in doors, but for practical reasons especially with larger breeds they may be in kennels or an out building. Either way their living space should be clean and dry, with plenty of toys and things for the puppies to interact with. The Whelping box if they are still in that should allow the bitch to get in and out easily so she can have some time out and get a drink. Even if they are kennelled outside they should be brought in doors to habituate them to indoor things. Once old enough they should be able to go in a play pen outside regularly. The more experiences they are habituated to gently with positive fun outcomes and not over faced and frightened the more well balanced they will be and retain their curiosity, confidence and seeking behaviour.

If you are able to see the puppies more than once that can be good so you see how their individual characters are developing. A good breeder will provide you with a puppy pack to take home with your new puppy. Usually with guidance notes on helping them settle in the early days, notes on worming and when to vaccinate, some of their usual food and often a free cover note for a months insurance which you then have the option of continuing. If this isn’t something they include it’s advisable to insure your pup as soon as possible.

Being as that crucial period for habituation and socialisation where puppies associations and how they will relate to the big wide world are fairly set by age 12 weeks and in reality the vaccines usually start at 9 or 10 weeks with the 2nd one at 12 weeks it makes it difficult to give your puppy the life experiences you might want if you can’t take them out due to the vaccine course not being finished. However there is still much you can do at home. Many vets practices hold puppy parties for puppies between 9 and 12 weeks where the floors will have been specially disinfected. These are great ways to let your puppy meet other puppies, people probably to travel by car. Usually the nurse running the party will advise new owners about worming, flea treatments, diet and other useful information. At home maybe invite some visitors, establish where the puppy will be sleeping and establish a feeding routine, teach him or her about being groomed, interact and play with your puppy, introduce children and other pets carefully, hoovers, TV other noises, the garden etc. If small enough maybe carry them so you can take them for short trips outside. You can introduce a daily routine of brushing and get him used to wearing a soft collar. Try to get your puppy used to new experiences gently and carefully without over facing them and causing anxiety and fear. Make things fun and hopefully you will be building a loving foundation for a great relationship with a Happy well adjusted dog.

Flower Essences can help a great deal when you first bring a puppy home. Bach Flower Rescue Remedy, Alaskan Soul Support or Animal Care are a good choice as to might be Aspen and Mimulus if the puppy is fearful and Walnut for helping with change. Honeysuckle for home sickness and missing the litter mates and mum. Alaskan Fireweed is for changes from the Alaskan system.

Continuing on from part 1

I was impatient to get started with making the first essence in my range. The weather was nice, Spring was here and everything was bursting into life. First of all I needed to make sure the environment on the farm was right for essence making. There have been many things here over the years that have stretched my imagination and comprehension and I’ve had a lot of help from some well known

Sea Essence for Water Purification

and who I consider to be advanced healers in their field assist me. This is really a huge subject in its own right and worthy of many blogs. So for now I’ll just say I needed to clear some disharmonious energy from the water on the land. We have a brook running through the farm and there are many underground springs that feed into it. I used an essence given to me by Julie Bowman called Lotus Holistic Sea Essence. A potent mixture of sea weed essences to help raise the vibration of water harmonising any toxic energy.

A few days after my water cleansing ritual I was sitting on a bench by our WW1 memorial. I was thinking out loud “Is there anything else I need to do to make sure the farm is energetically clear before I can make the Equi Anima Essence. “You need to place an essence by the memorial” came the reply. I then used a pendulum to dowse for what I needed. An Alaskan gem essence came up and needed to be placed on the land by the Oak memorial for 5 consecutive days. Last year we planted a hectare of woodland which was a 1000 native trees and shrubs in conjunction with the Woodland Trust as a commemorative wood for all those involved in the First Workd War. Ours is also dedicated to the horses and other animals that suffered in that and other wars.

The gem essence was Water Melon Taurmaline. A brief description of this essence is that it balances Universal polarities of Yin and Yang. It brings green, physical Earth frequency into harmony with the pink spiritual angelic qualities of love.

For a while now I have been feeling that I needed and wanted to make a range of essences especially for animals with the help of my animals. I’d thought of a name for these new essences and I’d already felt the first one was going to be for horses. I don’t profess to being an animal communicator although I have done some training with it and do quite often get some accurate insights from animals I connect with but it can be a bit hit and miss. So I was wondering how I might involve my horses in the process of creating the new essence. A voice in my head said just ask them so I did. I do often chat away to them, but this was more specific. Anyway I told them my plans. Wraheem continued to eat. I asked can I have their help and he raised an eye. I felt like he was telepathically comminicating “Ok you caught my attention, but can’t you see I’m eating right now”!

I turn my attention to Ryaaz who has always been very open, often communicating deep and insightful things when I’ve had readings done by others even when it’s not been about him. I often get told “There is a grey horse here that wants you to know Bla!” with further prompting it becomes apparent which grey horse it is. So it was no surprise when I directed my attention and question “What should this first essence for the horses be for” to him that he raised his head and looked straight into my eyes while chewing softly and as if it should be obvious immediately words came into my conscious awareness and he says quiet simply “help them connect to the herd”

So over the next few days I’m impatient to start, but I get the message of “Woah, hold your horses woman, there is much healing and preparation to do first”.

To be continued.

I first started looking into Holistic Therapies in my late teens when my Dr failed to help resolve an annoying condition that had plagued me for many years. I saw a homoeopath and by going down this route of treatment became more aware of dietary influences, supplementation and alternative approaches to health. It wasn’t until my late 20’s however that I first began training in therapies myself.

Divine Synchronicity

I was travelling home by train from London after a failed fertility treatment at hospital feeling pretty miserable and not happy to continue with the advised drug based therapy being recommended. Wondering what I could do I suddenly noticed a lady had got off the train leaving a magazine behind. With a long trip ahead I decided to have a flick through and as I picked it up the pages fell open on an article about the Bach Flower Remedies and how they had helped women with fertility problems.

The article not only inspired me to try them for myself but at the bottom of the page was contact details for courses on becoming a Practitioner. I was amazed at the synchronicity and coincidence of the article falling open on that very page. It really was like a sign I was on the right path and I felt excited to learn all I could about it.

My First Training as a Bach Flower Practitioner

This then was the first holistic modality I studied and at the time I was working at a Veterinary surgery and my boss was very open to holistic therapies for animals within his practice and so once I had qualified I was able to see animals and their owners in the practice and helped many with pre and post surgery, emotional trauma, behavioural problems and many other things. It was a valued addition to the services the branch surgery offered and around this time the Bach Centre introduced the new Animal Practitioner course so I completed that too.

I have always been an animal lover and have had many pets over the years. I have bred and owned Arab horses since my teens and these sensitive horses have led me down a path of Natural Horsemanship and Holistic therapies. I worked with horses and children in my early career then at the veterinary surgery for 9 years.

An Ongoing Passion

Holistic therapies continued to be a passion for many years since and I have gone on to study many other modalities for people and animals. Flower and other Essences have been by far the most studied modality over many years.
I have enjoyed some wonderful courses leading to personal growth and additional certification.

The Horses Guiding My Path

Because of my Arab horse Perry being such a troubled and sensitive character I also started seeking alternative training methods and that led me down the Natural Horsemanship path although I also initially did the BHS exams so had a grounded and practical approach and knowledge base to start with. My next horse Perry’s nephew Wraheem is entirely a different character. Still sensitive, but with a more laid back disposition. He as a youngster was bold and confident, but wilful and opinionated unlike Perry who would really want to please and follow, Wraheem wanted to lead. My journey with him so far has had many highs and lows, but he has been a great teacher. Due to several falls he has had a long battle with physical niggles mainly back problems, but there have been foot balance issues, difficult behaviour, loss of confidence ( both me and him ) gradually finding it again, a journey that has led me to study many healing techniques, nutrition, herbs, more Natural Horsemanship, physical modalities like massage, stretching, Equine Touch, Reiki and other energy work, photonic therapy, animal communication, environmental effects and influences, herd dynamics, foot balance and trimming options, tack suitability and fit and much more.

My dogs, cats and other animals have all been great teacher’s too, but Wraheem has really been a major influence on my path.

Time To Share With Others

The things I have studied or experienced I feel have given me a broad experience that I hope to be able to use to help others and their animals.
